“Residence in the fields,
the Repaire Mas-Ségur is the expression of a rural renaissance,
a tribute to our terroir and the nobility
of our landscapes.”
Mathieu Puel

Le Repaire Mas-Ségur comes from an ancient appellation identifying the place known as Le Mas as the rural stronghold of an ancient family of milites castri. The patronymic of these knights, who were in the service of the first Viscounts of Ségur-Limoges, marks the nature and identity of the site.

On the edge of the village of Ségur, on the northern slopes of the Auvezère valley, the former stronghold of the châtellenie de Ségur has finally been restored to its former glory with the creation of a new vineyard: Repaire Mas-Ségur. This new estate is in keeping with the historical continuity of the Correze vineyards and brings back to life the know-how of the winegrowers of this terroir.

Vines have been grown here for centuries. Considered in the 16th century as owing “little to that of Bordeaux”, the vineyards of Bas-Limousin have left their mark in place names, such as Soudaine-Lavinadière and Vignols. Engravings from the 17th century depict the town of Limoges surrounded by vineyards. This century was undoubtedly the golden age of the Limousin vineyards.

The gentle slopes of the Correze region are perfectly suited to viticulture, and have been since time immemorial. Historically, vine-growing originated around the edges of the high, wet and cold regions, with plantations clinging to the bottom of the slopes and rising towards the top of the land.

Vineyards were thus concentrated on the borders of Périgord (Nontron, Thiviers, Excideuil), encroaching on the edge of the ancient massif and penetrating deep into the heart of open valleys such as those of the Corrèze and Vézère rivers.
